Welcome Back
Now that summer is ending, it is the start of a new school year at Spokane Falls Community College, marking a new chapter for the arts on campus. We have finally moved into our new building after a long wait. The beauty and grandeur of the new building, with its inspiring architecture and creative spaces, is truly a sight to behold. Exploring the new building and all it has to offer has been overwhelming, but it's a great, creative new space. Just walking the halls makes you want to create something.
The new building will house the Fine and Applied Arts programs, with students from different programs mixed across the facility. This allows students from various programs to interact with each other, sharing their experiences as we all grow in new and exciting ways. This year will be a learning curve for students and faculty; learning the ins and outs of the new building and adapting the curriculum to the new spaces available will be an ongoing challenge.
The new space is full of details retained from the buildings that it will be replacing. The wall art is full of items used in teaching amulini past and little bits of the old buildings can be found like hidden gems, scattered around the facility. These old items, with their rich history, still have stories to share and help connect the new to the past, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
To say nothing about the views from the new building, placed on the rim of the college campus, looking out across the Spokane River and the Downriver Golf Course. Huge glass windows allow the gorgeous light into the main lobby, where there is gallery space for both the Fine Arts and Photography programs to share student talent and be active participants in the local art scene.
