In The Round

Discovering new techniques can ignite your creative spark. I've been delving into the unique world of “photography in the round.” This involves capturing a subject from various angles and merging the exposures. The outcome resembles an impressionistic painting, where intricate details fade, leaving only the subject's essence. The resulting images are soft, ethereal, often bordering on the surreal.

The image you see above is the culmination of a meticulous process. It's a composite of over fifty shots taken in a circular pattern around a fountain. After some minor adjustments, like white balancing, these images were imported into Photoshop as layers. By adjusting the opacity of each layer and aligning them using the fountain top as a reference, I allowed everything else to blur into a ghostly haze. The fun begins with deciding what to emphasize in each layer through blending modes. Finally, once the blended image is complete, I can apply the final touches to enhance the textures and colors, giving me the freedom to create a unique, dreamlike image.

Stepping into a new realm of my craft, which I would only occasionally venture into, has been rewarding. It's expanded my understanding of the craft I'm passionate about. This new technique is now another tool in my creative arsenal, ready to be used when the right project presents itself. It's also an excellent way to interpret the world around you, capture fleeting moments, or uniquely express emotions.
